2. What is the most useful feature of BlackBoard?
The most useful thing about blackboard is that I can take my classes online. Taking classes online can be beneficial because you can do your work on your own time and you can also do it at home without driving to the school which saves money by using less gas.
The Assignment manager is a quick and easy way to turn in assignments. You just click the link, attach your file and submit it. It is very convenient if you have a busy life style.
The most useful item on Black Board is the teachers Syllabus and Course Information. I may forget about something I can just go to Black Board and see what it is that I have forgotten
That I can send questions thru email directly from blackboard
Tools because everything you need is right there under one tab
The most useful feature of Blackboard is the box on the home page with my courses. I can navigate to anything I need to see by clicking on the appropriate course and viewing anything available regarding the course. Another useful tool on Blackboard is the discussion board. The discussion board makes it easy to talk to classmates and help each other.
I think the discussion board is the most useful for me. It makes it easy to communicate with my class mates and teachers
The most useful thing about blackboard would be how we can check our grades right there on blackboard. I like how all our grades are right at our fingertips.
The most useful feature about Blackboard for me is the online testing. The "real" time test results lets everyone know how well (or how poorly) the test went without having to worry for a week while the Professor grades the papers.

The most useful feature of blackboard is after you click on what your course is, it shows you what tasks that you have to do,this is especially useful for someone that is very forgetful because it just POPS UP and reminds you.
I think the most useful feature of BB is the discussion board, it allows for communicating with peers and teachers because with an online class you do not have the opportunity to collaborate in person about ideas and topics regarding a specific subject.

Listening to our Students Series
At Northeast we care what our students think. As part of our Instructor Testimonial Mr. Jay Massey decided to use his time to conduct a survey of CIS146 students with questions concerning Blackboard. During March I will be posting some answers from those questions. Thanks Jay!
BlackBoard: From a Student’s Point of View?
As instructors here at Northeast we rely on BlackBoard for much of our instruction. We may use it heavily for online classes, and to a lesser extend for classes that meet. We work to explore BlackBoard and what it offers in order to provide our students with a well-developed learning tool. As instructor’s we each have certain likes and dislikes related to BlackBoard. We may prefer to have exams taken in class but homework may be submitted through BlackBoard. We may provide a syllabus that details the entire semester or it may be a week by week affair. We each have our own point of view as it relates to BlackBoard. Well, students are no different…
Following are the results of a four question survey taken by CIS146 students. The questions were open ended allowing the students to answer in any way they chose and expound on their answers. It should be noted that “all” students are required to take CIS146, so these students make up a pretty good cross section of the student body. These questions were BlackBoard (not course) specific. The results show a few common themes but in some cases the most liked or most useful feature of one student is the least liked or least useful feature of another student!
Take a few minutes and review the student feedback. You may find something interesting that you may want to implement (or avoid implementing) in your courses…I did!

1. What do you like most about BlackBoard?
What I like most about Blackboard is that all of my assignments are always posted so that I can look at them whenever I need to. If I happen to miss a class for some reason, I can always go to Blackboard and see the assignments that I missed so that I will not get behind on my work.
What I like most about Blackboard is that I can access it virtually anywhere using my computer or my smartphone, which makes like a little less stressful.
I believe the best part about Blackboard is that you can use it anywhere at any time. If I'm away from home I can pick up any computer and log in to my Blackboard. This is so useful to me.
I like black board because I can do my work when I want and I can turn it in ahead of schedule

This is the first semester I have had to use blackboard, so far I have had no problems with it attaching files has been an easy feature.
What I like most about Blackboard is anything I need to know or want to know I can Logon to Blackboard and the information is there. NO waiting in line to talk to someone, or being put on hold on the phone
The NBC archive feature is what I like most about blackboard. When doing term papers or even having to do an article this feature allows easy access to specific subject matter for quick and easy references.

I like that I can see all my grades and assignments at any time on Blackboard. I like to keep up with my grades and Blackboard makes it easy to check my grades and the progress I am making towards completing all of the assignments for the semester

What I like most about Blackboard is seeing all the announcements for all the classes I am enrolled in on the homepage. I think this feature makes it easy to keep track of all the assignments and updates to the courses
I have taken online classes for the past two semesters and it is a great help to my schedule
I like the fact that all of my online classes are conveniently located on this specific website. This keeps me from having to remember different websites and passwords for every different class that I am taking. I also like the fact that it is not difficult to use. I have never attended a Blackboard Orientation; I just logged onto Blackboard and spent an hour or so familiarizing myself with the different tabs and tools enough to breeze through it by the time classes had started.
What I like most about blackboard, is the fact that it allows me to be able to take my classes online.

Working Together
This week in the TLC the students are working hard on their CIS146 and CIS147 assignments. Being Microsoft we all know the application software changes almost yearly. The CIS146 students are now working in Office 2010 and the CIS147 students are still working in Office 2007. Since I don't use the application/applications on a daily basis I too sometimes have to read the chapters to be able to assist the students.
Yesterday we had a young lady working on her CIS147 assignments and ask me to assist her. After about 15 minutes I was frustrated. Never fear help was here! A couple of the ILT/INT guys that come to the center regularly were there to assist. After another 15-20 minutes the four of us working together figured it out. Team Work!
If you haven't been to the technology learning center and need help with some of your assignments, come by. It may take a village but between us all we'll get it worked out. It was fun working on a team to solve the problem. Hope to see you soon. Business Education Building Room 107.

An Instructor's Testimony
The Wimba suite of collaborative learning software has revolutionized the way I approach instruction in my Spanish classes, both on campus and online. I have been able to use these tools through Blackboard in order to free up my class time so that students can practice the language instead of listening to me lecture about the language. These technologies have made my teaching more relevant and accessible to students. The three main components of Wimba that I use are Voice Presentation, Voice Board, and the Wimba Classroom.
I have used the Voice Board in my online classes as an oral discussion board. It provides the students with a platform to speak Spanish in a non-threatening environment, and then they can comment on each other’s posts in Spanish. It is versatile enough that I can also comment on what the students say without other students hearing my comments. That provides an easy way to give students feedback without being put on the spot.
The Voice Presentation tool has changed the way that I conduct oral exams. Before, each student had to sign up for an exam time, come to my office, and agonize over their Spanish in front of the intimidating teacher. Now, using the Voice Presentation portion of Wimba, I can conduct the oral exams with an entire class at the same time. Students are able to enter the Spanish class on Blackboard, enter a Voice Presentation room, and orally respond to different prompts that I give them through web-based content. Students seem to feel more comfortable, and I am actually able to evaluate their speaking abilities in a more authentic manner.
The final portion of the Wimba suite that I want to discuss is my favorite. The Wimba Classroom allows me to conduct both live and recorded class sessions with my students. With Wimba Classroom, you are able to upload PowerPoint presentations, images, and websites into a virtual classroom, and then, you are able communicate with students that have entered the virtual classroom. What is even better is that all of this can be recorded for future use. For my traditional, on-campus classes, I have recorded short 5-10 minute mini-lectures covering the grammar topics that come up during the semester in Spanish. I assign the mini-lectures as homework. Students listen to the mini-lecture at home, and when they get to class, they are ready to practice what they have learned in the mini-lecture. I don’t have to spend class time talking ABOUT Spanish; we can use the time SPEAKING Spanish. Also, I use the Wimba Classroom with my online classes as a review tool. Several times during the semester, I plan evenings in which my online students can “attend” (either on campus or online through Wimba) a review session. After entering the virtual classroom though Blackboard, students can ask me questions, and we are able to review the material together at the same time without being in the same place. For those students that cannot attend, the review sessions are recorded, and they can view the video at their convenience.

Christmas Celebration
The Technology Learning Center along with the Vice-President's office hosted the first annual TLC Christmas Celebration on Thursday, December 9th for the NACC students. We had a great time of fun, food, and fellowship. The center was the place to be on campus! I have included several photos. ENJOY!
